Exodus 28

Exodus 28 Devotional

RICHARD GARDINER

He carries your name on His heart!

I love the imagery of the Tabernacle.  The intricacy of its design and the extravagance of its construction was a reminder to people, living in very difficult conditions, of the majesty of the God who was leading them into His promises.

We all need that reminder, whether it’s the majesty of a grand cathedral, the beauty of a sunset on a beach, or the laughter of friends and family around a dinner table. The promise of something better!

There is beautiful detail here in the design of Aaron’s garments, two stones set upon his shoulders and engraved with the names of the twelve tribes…

“Aaron will carry their names before the Lord as a constant reminder.” (28:12)

As Aaron carried out his priestly duties, as He entered into the Holy of Holies, he carried the people’s names into God’s presence.

In Christ we have a Great High Priest who in this very moment is seated at the right hand of the Father. His work at the Cross is completed.  He has overcome death and now He carries your name before God’s Throne of Grace…

……because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.  Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:24-25)

Over the years I’ve been encouraged on many occasions to know that people have been praying for me. Knowing that I am not forgotten and that when I struggle to find the words, others have stood in the gap for me. I hope that has also been your experience.

But what an encouragement it is today to know that Jesus himself, as our eternal High Priest, carries your name into Heaven itself. Your salvation is safe and secure in His completed work, and when we stumble – He is there carrying us in prayer.

  1. So good to reflect on this. The description of the priestly robes in this section of Exodus brought to mind also that we are clothed in righteousness because of putting faith and trust in Jesus. How marvellous!
