Exodus 25

Exodus 25 Devotional

ASHLEIGH BEATTIE

I have a tendency to skip through passages like Exodus 25. When reading the specific list of instructions the Lord gives for the construction of His Tabernacle and the items within, I used to think, “that’s nice, but I don’t need to know this”. I certainly couldn’t visualise how it would have looked. I skimmed it and moved on to the next section.

In verses 10-22 of chapter 25, we read about the construction of the Ark. The tablets of the covenant law were to be placed inside with a bowl of manna and Aaron’s budding rod. The Atonement cover was made with gold cherubim on top and between the cherubim was where God said He would meet with His people.

On the Day of Atonement, mentioned in Leviticus 23, the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies and perform a series of rituals to atone for the sins of the people. These included offering sacrifices, burning incense and sprinkling blood on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant. He would confess the sins of the people and ask God for forgiveness.

I hadn’t tied both passages together because I had skipped the detail.

I love the imagery in this ritual. The High Priest had to sacrifice and sprinkle blood over the law to atone for the sin of the people. When God looked down He saw the blood that atones, not the sin that condemns. God knew we wouldn’t be able to keep the law so He sent Jesus, a once and for all sacrifice for sin, to atone for us. When He looks at us, He doesn’t see us in our sinful state, He sees Jesus who has atoned for us all.

Rest in the knowledge today that you are forgiven, once and for all.

  1. The items God told the Israelites to use to make the tabernacle — gold, silver, bronze, fine linen, spices, and gems — were not ordinary building materials. These were high quality, top of the line, valuable items. God asked Israel to give Him their best, and He promised to do the same in return today and everyday.
    Have a great weekend everyone.
Gods got a plan and your apart of it .🙏🏻

  2. Such good and happy thoughts, Ashleigh.

“Have them build a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them.”

God always wanted to dwell among his people. He states His intention plainly here. He made it finally possible for all time and beyond time into eternity by Jesus’ death and atoning blood. What was being made on earth under His instruction was a copy of something in heaven.

“For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but [He entered] into heaven itself, now to appear in the very presence of God on our behalf;”

Our great High Priest, Jesus, ever lives to intercede for us: I am so grateful.
