Remember your ‘fellowship offering’ today

Key Verse

Leviticus 6 v 12

“The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it.”

Central truth:  Our fellowship offering is still important today.

So many sacrifices...

If you have looked at Leviticus, have you ever wondered: What was the purpose of so many sacrifices?  Has this any relevance to me today?  After all, didn’t Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice do away with the need for the sacrifices of the Old Testament?

I did a little background reading and … several of the sacrifices, weren’t to atone for sin.

One of these, the fellowship offering, was God’s design for his people to express thanks, devotion, commitment and complete surrender to Him, as they shared a fellowship meal with Him and each other.

We don’t need a temple and priests to sacrifice a fellowship offering for us.  What we need is a heart turned towards Him, so that we can hear His voice and a willingness to listen and then to obey His prompting; a heart of worship to love Him and be thankful.

Spend time with someone...and be thankful

Time spent together sharing a meal and being thankful is still God’s plan for us as His people - which is good - I like eating and sharing!

Maybe God is asking us to consider this part of our relationship with Him.  Our Heavenly Father has provided a means of personal relationship with Himself through His Son Jesus.

Let’s remember our ‘fellowship offering’.

Consider:

What might your fellowship offering look like today?

Take a few momnets to read Romans 12 v 1-2 and consider how it relates to Leviticus.

Who could you encourage and be thankful with this week?  What will you eat?!!
