Today in the arid and famine swept Kenyan District of Tharaka, in the country’s Eastern Province, a small Christian charity led by CFCs Bobby Moffett runs six schools that currently educates and feeds over 2500 orphaned children and supports 200 pastors.
Since Bobby set up Educate The Orphans – or ETO – in 1990, Kenyans and volunteers from Ireland north and south have demonstrated the love of Christ in a practical way and in doing so saved the lives of countless children.
With the building of schools and the provision of good local teachers, community education programmes and water projects, which include the provision of hygienic water containers, storage tanks and the construction of a dam to harness the available water, quality of life has been improved.
Having trained over 200 pastors and church leaders, ETO also ensures that the Gospel is taken to remote areas, villages and towns. Famine and the provision of food is still a paramount concern for ETO.
“At home it is difficult to truly comprehend the devastation that begins to unfold when rain simply doesn’t fall. The people of Tharaka District know it all too well and when government food supplies dry up, our Feeding Programme increases providing our pupils with two meals per day and three for boarders. The programme has now been increased to cover more than 30,000 people. We could have done none of this without the support of Christian Fellowship Church and the volunteers who work tirelessly at home and in Kenya,” Bobby Moffett said.
